Apprenticeship is a hands-on training program for people who want to work in skilled trades occupations. The in-school portion of the Marine Engine Technician program is offered by Georgian College, Midland Campus.
Apprenticeship training provides access to well-paying jobs that demand a high level of skill, judgment and creativity. Apprentices are paid while gaining work experience and their wages increase with their level of skill. Apprentices are workers, so they need to find employers willing to train them.
Registered apprentices will receive most of their training on-the-job. The balance of the training is in-school and is provided by an approved training delivery agent.
Most apprenticeships take two to five years to complete, depending on the trade or occupation. Boating Ontario offers a scholarship program for graduating students.
