Apprentice Programs

Pre-Apprenticeship Program - SPRING 2017

The Pre-Apprenticeship Program will support potential entrants to the apprenticeship system who require job readiness skills and trade readiness experience. This program will bridge gaps between the skills people have and the skills employers are seeking.

The program includes academic upgrading to attain the minimum academic requirement for the trade and academic skills required for the successful completion of the trade readiness component.

This Pre-Apprenticeship Marine Technician Project is funded by the Government of Ontario. Boating Ontario in partnership with Georgian College – Midland Campus provides each participant with a state of the art learning centre, instruction, textbooks and tools, safety boots, certificates/tickets and value-added educational services.

This is a fully funded 35-week program which includes a 12-week paid work placement.  Admission to the 2017 program is now closed.

Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeship is a hands-on training program for people who want to work in skilled trades occupations. The in-school portion of the Marine Engine Technician program is offered by Georgian College, Midland Campus.

Apprenticeship training provides access to well-paying jobs that demand a high level of skill, judgment and creativity. Apprentices are paid while gaining work experience, and their wages increase with their level of skill. Apprentices are workers, so need to find employers willing to train them.

Registered apprentices, will receive most of their training on-the-job. The balance of the training is in-school and is provided by an approved training delivery agent.

Most apprenticeships take two to five years to complete, depending on the trade or occupation. Boating Ontario offers a scholarship program for graduating students.
