2011 Winner of the National Canadian Environment Award

HUB wins National Canadian Environment Award

Hub Steenbakkers, (on right of picture) Collins Bay Marina, Kingston, Ontario, is this year’s recipient of the Natural Marine/Mason’s Chandlery National Environment Award.

This blown glass trophy, in the form of a hollow raindrop, that has trapped air from the year 2000, commissioned and presented by Bill Milne, President of Natural Marine was created by Shirley Elford, Clairford Studios, Hamilton, Ontario, the person who blows the annual Canadian Juno Awards.

It was presented to Hub at the 26th annual Yachtsman’s Spring Thaw Luncheon, April 29, at the Boulevard Club in Toronto

Hub, one of 240 in the world, certified as a Marina Manager by the International Marina Institute, was instrumental in helping get the national Clean Marine Program instituted in 100’s of marinas across Canada.

You can easily see from his background as a competitive sailor, skier, windsurfer and cycler, that the environment is close to his heart and an ideal choice for this 2011 trophy
