Clean Marine Eco-Rating Plan for 2011

Clean Marine Eco-Rating Plan for 2011

In 2010 Greenleaf Environmental performed 75 Eco-Rating re-certifications and certified 5 marinas and one yacht club not previously in the program. 29 of those re-certified reached the new Gold standards introduced in 2009 and 6 reached the Diamond level for those facilities going beyond the previous high rating of 5-green leaf anchors. This is a remarkable effort and demonstrates how dedicated members are to this program. The Clean Marine Program lost some participants in 2010 but still continues to be the top program in the world for numbers of participants and continuous improvements in environmental performance.

In spite of waiting until mid-September 2010 for an MOE contract and the associated funding promised in March, last year was a successful one for the Clean Marine Program.  MOE, looking for cost savings, reduced our grant from $60,000 to $50,000 but the money did finally arrive in October. To continue with their cost cutting, MOE has further reduced funding for 2011 to the point where unfortunately there will be no more subsidized rates for your Clean Marine certification.

Until 2011 this Clean Marine cycle was followed:

Certification audit in year one - $600 – MOE subsidized $300

Self audit the following two years - $75 each - $150

Re-audit again. – 3-year cycle

Total cost to marina $300 + $75 X 2= $450 or $150 amortized per year.

For 2011:

Add one year between audits. – 4-year cycle

Certification audit year one - $600

Self audit the following three years – reduced from $75 to $50 - $150

Total cost to marina= $600 +$50 X 3 = $750 = $187.50 per year to be invoiced annually for Boating Ontario members. Non members will be invoiced when audit is performed.

For a minimal increase in annual cost your Clean Marine program can be maintained and you enjoy the benefits so obvious to all of you who continue to excel and improve your Eco-Rating scores and make this the worlds leading program.

Greenleaf will be contacting those due for recertification this year to arrange your on-site visits.
